Happy New Years
First of all, happy new years.
Here's a massive update on what has been going on for... the last 365 days.
I've been busy with my studies (got a job offer which I'm holding off for now, really starting my big round of job search right about now). So with the last semester of college that's coming up I'm probably going to be too busy for anything else.
Another thing: I've been completely sleeping on Touhou. I just checked it out a week ago and found out there's a new game--Impossible Spell Card-- along with a CD release closely following Trojan Green Asteroid (the last touhou-related thing I've check on since). The CD seems to be called Neo-traditionalism of Japan, and I've heard parts of it through arrangements on Youtube. Seriously, there's no copy of the original song on YT :v
Since it was a new years and all, I decided to maybe record and upload something to my channel. I chose to do the final Days theme of ISC- Eternal Short-lived Reign. The first time I heard it, I was immediately reminded of Neo Super Express, which was a piece I've always wanted to do on my channel. I have a vague idea of an arrangement using Eternal Short-lived Reign along with Neo Super Express, Fall of Fall (MoF), and Dullahan Under The Willows (DDC). It's a pretty big mash-up so I thought it'd be pretty cool...
AND THEN I BROUGHT OUT MY FLUTE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A YEAR. It was... well, not really gold anymore.
I have no idea what it is, but on perfectly one side of the whole flute (all 3 pieces), there was this thing layer of rust/solidified oil/ or w/e it is. It looked really musty and dulled any gleam in the regular surface of the flute. Besides the surface feeling terribly weird, it played fine though (except for my 1 year rust in skills).
Anyways, I got rid of around 70% of the thing, but it's really hard without any proper cleaning tools like oil. I don't even know my flute-fixing-guy's phone number anymore. I'll see if I can get this thing back to how it was over time.
In short, I was SHOCK and I don't think I'll be recording that any time soon :x
Instead, here's this really long Happy New Years post.
Happy 2015 :D

Happy Chinese New Years!
Me neither.
Unfortunately, probably no one would either way even after this gets posted...
Anyways, I just felt like posting something because things have been empty. I think I have shin splints--it's my first time and I've only heard about them so I wouldn't know much. Nonetheless, I'm going to try to be careful with the leg and see if it gets better soon (I would go to the university hospital, but did I hand in that annual form for the insurance thing last semester...!?).
Also, I set a macro to spam registration for a course I've been wanting to take for like 3 months now which has been always full, and ended up getting sort of banned and now I can't register for any more courses this semester (at least through the web). Who said there was such a rule D:
And then I read some Oyasumi Punpun chapters.
Depressing day huh ._.
I wish I had my flute. Why didn't I bring it again...?

So What Happened...?
I-It's not like I got really lazy and never finished finalizing a sheet for myself to play the planned-piece...!
Actually, I developed this very bad THING inside of my mouth (inner lower lip). It started out as a regular bump which is pretty common. But it took longer than usual to go away, and soon it got bigger and turned into like a blister-thing- which now I think is filled with clotted blood (it looks bad, though it doesn't hurt unless you really mess with it).
It's just a little uncomfortable all the time, but playing the flute was obviously not an option.
So I was supposed to leave this morning, just like that, and never touch the flute again for 6 months or so (well, that's not never). Buuuuuut due to a turn of events including getting this THING checked out, I didn't leave. I am also scheduled to get this removed via surgery (a simple one) in the morning and leave right after for the dreadful 16 hour drive. Buuuuuut I'm not sure if that is such a wise action (doctor says it's no problem, but still...), so I MIGHT stay for ANOTHER day. That's 2 days delayed, which is horrendous since it probably won't give me enough time to get accustomed when I'm over there.
Well, I'll see how it turns out.
Nothing TOO big or serious though.

What the Heck ZUN [Part 1]
FlanGoY I know you only post when all of the moons of Pluto align with the Sun, but do you think i could perhaps make a little request of "The Centennial Festival for Magical Girls - Flandre's Stage theme. I love your work, I wish I had the patience to do the same with my clarinet, keep it up!
Apparently that's how frequent I upload now ;_;
Anyways, I set out to fulfill his request and started looking into the beloved classic Th06 Extra Stage theme.
Being an avid listener to Touhou music, I THOUGHT I was familiar with this old nostalgic piece... until I looked into some sheets composed by different pianists.
There were simply too many areas of discrepancies in the melody of the notes, whether some sheets were personal arrangements or simple (if that word even fits this piece) translations faithful to the original sound track.
And upon careful listening to The Centennial Festival for Magical Girls, I found out how awesomely inconsistent (not necessarily in a bad way) these notes are. It must be ZUN playing tricks on us. Either that, or he was very drunk and/or lazy as the track description says.
I personally don't think it's laziness though, since within the context of the piece as a whole, I guess they are consistent...
I'm no professional music theorist or composer- I just play them back. Despite my that, here's some of my analysis of this piece where I try to sort things out a bit, so that I may play it myself in peace. (Also, I'm basing this whole thing off of how I do things regarding playing touhou pieces on flute. You well know there aren't any legitimate flute sheets out there, so I take the piano-ones and take out bits and melodies from it...)
If you want to follow as I rabble on about this stuff, you can get my pack of these piano sheets here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?c6jpzw1nvgu18rb
I will be using 4 sheets:
#1 by Koge Iza-yois which is a complete arrangement of the Extra Stage+Boss theme.
#2 by DMBN, an arrangement which seems like a faithful translation to the WAV version of the original.
#3 by an unkown author (I have a feeling it's DMBN though), but of a notably old date--meaning less correction.
#4 by Alioth, another personal arrangement of the WAV version.
Alioth's is written in flats, but still in the same key, so let's not get too confused with that.
#1,2, and 3 are all F# major.
#4 is Gb major, which is essentially the F# major.
-First Intro Part-
The song begins with some exotic scale progression tinkling down starting from D# (Eb).
Here's the very first potential discrepancy- the MIDI version does not have grace-notes (or fluff) while coming down the scale. On the other hand, the WAV does, and in fact, it's much more trinkl-y and crystal-like with the piano and echoes.
#1 and 3 adopts the simplified MIDI-style, whereas #2 and 4 adds the extra notes.
Unlike #4 which simply uses the easily-heard grace-notes, #3 also combines the distant tinkle's that can't be heard too well in the original WAV version, making the whole phrase overly full/rich. This also means accents must be added to the important notes for distinction, otherwise it'd get very mushy.
On the 5th measure, a synth enters and ends going flat at the end. This phrase can be clearly seen on #3.
#2 adds the flattening effect by using chromatics on the left hand harmony whereas #1 strays off into an original phrase and similarly tapers off.
On the 9th measure, things get rowdy as the percussion, bass (can't be heard in MIDI), background synth (ambience), and loud synth-y trumpets (just blasting chords, softer in MIDI) come in (the first scale tinkling down thing is still there, unmodified!).
- The bass I'll skip since I can't play it on the flute anyways :P but in all seriousness, they seem consistent.
- The synth chords can be seen on #3 again (yay for easy mode) and 2nd piano left hand on #2. The two phrases also match.
- As seen on the right hand of 1st piano on #2, the new synth-ambience-like progression (almost inverse to the tinkling down part) is present. #2 does show what seems like a plausible translation, but that part is again, a background noise (both on MIDI and WAV). #2 makes it too clear-cut (it's a piano), so maybe it should at least have slur over the whole thing. What should be more dominant is the continuation of the scale phrase from the beginning (right hand 2nd piano #2). #1 and 4 keeps this.
Now let's get to the real deal (lol).
That's just something minor though. Let's look at the next issue.
#4 has the most practical (in terms of play-ability) one, with simple 16th notes going down a chromatic scale. So that's 16 notes in that rift. Listen to the original--there's DEFINITELY way more than 16 notes. If you need the easy way out though, I think this will do. Again, it's hard to discern if it's right or wrong from the original (you need to concentrate hard to notice that there's more than 16 notes in that rift listening to the original, and even then, it's only a gut feeling), but this doesn't seem to reach the low notes you hear in the original either.
#1 kicks it up a notch and has 23-notes. Pretty uneven. That's really unlikely unless someone really puts it in there for that sole purpose of making it weird (which actually might fit the premise of this piece). It also starts on a non-C (which is what we end with from the previous part). The scale itself is also very exotic and might not match the piece too much. Of course, it doesn't matter how "right on" a run has to be if it's this fast in such a piece, but it still sounds there may be more notes than 23 of them in the original. [This is purely a guess, at this point, I have no idea]
#2 has 32nd notes. This one's probably the right one. Hey, it's chromatic too. Sometimes I just wanna take the simpler ones.... lol (note, the rift does sound a bit un-chromatic at the end though, either because it's a synth or maybe it is really not chromatic, which then MIGHT put #1 above #2 for being more correct)

Heading Back
With the little time I will have left, I'll TRY to do as much as I could.
I was planning to upload at least 1 or 2 simple songs...
and maybe ACTUALLY WORK REALLY HARD and upload daily video/audios of my practice sessions to play one legitimate song (right now looking at Native Faith or Immortal Smoke) at the end before I leave again.
Let's see how well that works out;; lol
(Cheer me on! ...except barely anyone would actually visit this blog to receive this message :v)
Bought some books while I was here. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy as much as books of new series that I wanted to start trying.
I guess some notable ones include Another (manga) 1~4
and Touhou Ibarakasen 1!
Already read half, though I'm saving the rest for the flight.
btw listening to the long awaited platinum disco while writing this ;_;
ugh so much obsession!

Desire Drive to Futatsuiwa from Sado
Two new songs from the same new game back to back. In my honest opinion, the extra stage boss theme is kinda... bad (it's still better than some other ones in there), so I don't mind having the recording come out pretty bad.
As for the stage 4 theme, it's definitely like a 4-star piece (out of 5 let's say- that means it's a very good touhou song in my library!) that didn't deserve my trippy and faltering performance. Really wish it came out better ;_;
EDIT: apparently this post didn't get posted like 11 months ago...
Satellite Café Terrace
SATELLITE CAFE TERRACE! Let's sit back, relax, and sip on our both frozen and hot coffee.
So in about 2 months, I finally pewped out (!?) a recording...
I'm SO SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG ;_;
What's even worse is: I only have about a month left, but I probably won't have time to play the flute again starting like... tomorrow.
I'm SO SORRY ;_;
but actually... I'm going overseas to study some law stuff. Yup. Law stuff (btw, if I haven't mentioned it yet, I am a Computer Science major). It'd be nice if I could go and find out about the case in which my Platinum Disco was removed (I haven't forgotten!), since I am getting the choice to go learn stuff related to Intellectual Property. But I think I'm choosing Corporate-related laws instead (it's more practical...?)...
I'm SO SORRY ;_;

Status Report~
I should just start posting random things about my personal life, which would certainly bring more content here since I don't play the flute as much anymore...
Anyways, I came back home for my vacation and finally decided to dust off and bring out the old setup. And it worked out! I got to record my flute and now I have a video ready to be uploaded :3
BUT I think I'm going to hold off on uploading it till April 1st because... well it's not a (spoiler) touhou song, and I feel like no other day is more appropriate than April Fools' Day. Don't be mad at me :P
For those who want to spoil yourselves, go to this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv-sNWMdQzA
I guess it's a present for reading my dead blog xD
I'll save anything else I have to say until then. Bye :)
EDIT: Removed the old one and put up a new public one. Forgot Youtube rejects duplicate uploads (even if private) so had to retype all the details and tags :(
Have the title as mokou's theme, cause actually playing that on the flute would be awesome (I still can't do the fast parts after the first one;;), and hopefully people will come in excited, then get disappointed. Well, that's the spirit of April Fools day. Hopefully I don't forget to change the title back to a proper one after today :v
As for more uploading, I can't :( It was just a one-time thing and I just barely got this one in...

Merry Christmas~
I wish you all (had) a Merry Christmas~!
Mine was kinda... dull- as I just sat in my room and did nothing the whole day D:
but hey, I'm back! Hopefully I'll use the time I was given wisely to brush up on my flauting and upload some pieces.

Oh Yeah, I had a Blog....
So the past 3~6 months or so, I've been lazily living my life. I didn't get much practice done on my flute (if any), and I haven't uploaded in a while (except that one song when TD demo came out).
I probably should have uploaded more stuff... or at least tried to because I will be leaving for good very soon (August 17th to be exact). After that, I don't know if I'd even be able to get a chance to record stuff.
Hopefully I will still be able to, but I'm just letting people know that my upload rate will drastically drop here. Yes, even more ;_;
With the few days remaining, I'll try to record some touhou music AS MUCH AS I COULD.

死霊の夜桜 (Night Sakura of Dead Spirits)
A very decent song. Certainly different from many stage 1 themes;; but hey, we have a Stage 6 boss here...
I'll definitely revisit this in the future. It's actually pretty tricky, and the video doesn't even get to the real fancy part.
Barely avoided this being the first Yuyuko theme on my channel... or is it too late?
Anyways, no more 7-month hiatus excuses!!

I'm still alive! ... and Google's going crazy.
I've been practicing the flute a bit, no worries... but I have not looked at a single touhou music sheet ever since the previous upload. Feel free to bash me, as I am already doing so myself.
Anyways, all this Google security is getting on my nerves. Youtube requires a linked google account, and even blogger seems to mention something about securities and stuff. Has there been some hacking sprees or something lately?
What's with the sudden beef'd saftey procedures...

No Title D:
I'm too busy these days to do anything. I may be able to barely squeeze in a few things (only a few) for a while (while as in several months). This week, I do not even have 1 second to practice or attempt any touhou/non-repertoire pieces.
So, I'm sorry! Hopefully, I'll be able to upload a ton when this is all over.

もう歌しか聞こえない (Deaf to All But The Song) - Touhou Flute
Finally new mic! My budget of $50 on this seems to have payed off... I think

年中夢中の好奇心 - Touhou Flute
New flute! Well, you really can't hear an improvement in sound quality or anything since the mic is still the limited, cheap, desktop thingy;; But some tone things or some other things might have improved :D
Also, I used a different echo than the one I usually used to do. AND I slightly pumped up the noise reduction (well, the background WAS pretty static-y for some reason), and sacrificed a bit of core sound quality.
Anyways, not a bad song- though it kinda felt childish sometimes with that melody in the beginning... Next upload (which is Mystia's) will finally (and hopefully) be recorded in...! ::
1. New flute which I bought a while ago.
2. New Mic (it's even a condenser~) which is on its way right now (don't damage it shippers :s!)
3. New software that's more professional rather than the free Audacity which I... eh-hem'd off the interet.
I;m really looking forward to it. Hope you do too ;D

New Flute!!
As for the uploads~ :<
I'll simply start revisiting the old ones I guess... until something hits me in the head(?).
Think I got too lazy, I'm sorry! T^T

感情の摩天楼 ~ Cosmic Mind - FlanGoY Flute
It's finally here! Not as great as I planned it to be, but oh wells... New lesson learned: start recording something, finish it ASAP without any delays.
Emotional Skyscraper has beautiful melody with simplicity.
